Recognizing Physical and Logical Topologies This file is the Unit 6 Project More
This file is the Unit 6 Project in IT 273: Networking Concepts that showed me how to recognize physical and logical topologies. Being able to recognize topologies can be beneficial in upgrading or designing a new network. Moreover, the last two screenshots show how a network segment can be added to an existing network using switches, a wireless access point (WAP), or a completely different technology.

This is the objective part of the project because it starts out comparing the characteristics and features/functions of Network Operating Systems, but ends with a complete network design. This project was in the early part of the curriculum, but proved as the foundation for all the networking curriculum to come.

This is the IT 278: Network Adminstration Unit 9 and (final) Unit 10 Projects. The Unit 9 Using Linux: Configuration and Administration project is significant because it introduced Linux Suse, showed me how to create and manage user accounts in a Linux Suse environment, and  also exposed how to use KCron which is a tool for running applications in the background at regular intervals. Considering that Linux is a platform that is not as widely used as Windows, this was a great project for introducing an alternative to Windows. Further, some of Linux is an open source software, so this project also exposed how to use open source code which can be modified and is free to the public. The (final) Unit 10 Network Administrator Training Manual project is extremely significant because it showed me: the difference between clients and servers, common ethical issues that network administrators face, and how to prepare a training manual for junior IT administrators in Windows Server 2003 and Linux. Section A pertains to Windows Server 2003 and section B pertains to Linux.

Network Administrator Training Manual Project This file is the IT 278: More

This file is the IT 278: Network Administation Unit 10 (final) Network Administrator Training Manual Project in which the requirements were to create a training manual for junior IT administrators in both Windows Server 2003 and Linux. I found this project to be most challenging and attractive because it pertainined many moving parts. Not only did it request the training manual from scratch for the new junior IT administrators, but it also requested that we use two different operating systems (Windows Server 2003 and Linux Suse) in a virtual environment on top of my host operating system (Windows 7). This was not an easy task because of the length of the project; however, once I finished, I realized that it required all the network administration practices taught throughout the term. This project taught my how to manage a project with many moving parts while simultaneously stretching my IT network adminstration scholastic capacity (which is what eduaction is all about).

This is the IT 283: Networking With TCP_IP Unit 9 and Unit 10 (final) projects. The Unit 9 Planning and Cabling Networks Project is most significant because it introduced Packet Tracer 5.0 which is apart of the Cisco Networking Academy e-learning initiative that enables students to develop valuable information and communication technology skills for increased access to opportunities in the global economy. What Packet Tracer further offered was the ability to trace a packet as it traverses the 7 layers of the OSI Model. The Unit 9 and Unit 10 projects are paramount because it afforded me the opportunity to see what a packet does at each layer of the OSI Model, and the greatest benefit of this packet tracing software is that during troubleshooting a network administrator or technician can pin-point where the packet is having trouble reaching it's destination.

This file is the IT 283: Networking with TCP/IP Unit 9 Planning and Cabling Networks-Configuring and Testing a Network Project which consisted of: connecting a logical topology, creating an addressing scheme using variable length subnet masking, establishing a console session using a Packet Tracer terminal, and establishing a console session with a Cisco IOS router. This is were Packet Tracer is really effective because without this software, I would not have been able to receive the hands-on configuration training needed for the understanding.

Created using Microsoft Office Excel Worksheet, it shows how the IP addresses were divided using Variable Length Subnet Masking (VLSM). Further, what the worksheet shows is the total number of IP addresses which is the sum of all the possible hosts in all 3 locations. The importance of VLSM is that it allows a network administrator the ability to create an addressing scheme that is scalable but not wasteful.

Moreover, a quality audit must be structured to meet the need of a businesse's desired result, and an audit also exposes the shortcomings of a project. Further, the time tested standard for starting and completing a project is the principles practiced from the PMBOK. This is IT 482: Network Design Unit 8 and Unit 10 projects. These projects are significant because both use OPNET IT Guru Academic Edition software that provides hands-on experiments based on networking simulation for teaching the key computer networking topics to students and professionals. Furthermore, these projects are significant because they use a network design methodology that focuses primarily on 3 processes: analysis, architecture, and design. Lightly defining the 3 processes: network analysis focuses on learning what users, applications, and devices need from the network, network architecture focuses on what topology and technology to select for the network based on the network analysis results, and network design focuses on providing physical detail to the architecture, and network design is the target of the work, the culmination of network analysis and network architecture processes. Moreover, the Unit 8 and Unit 10 projects highlight the objective of network analysis, architecture, and design which is to produce network designs that are logical, reproducible, and defensible.
